Job summary

SMS Group in the United States seeks an Automation Engineer Level 1 Systems for Cold Mills. You will design and commission Level 1 control systems for Hot Strip Mills and Tandem Cold Mills, programming to meet project requirements and SMS standards, collaborating with project management and mechanical teams.

Travel is required: integration tests in Germany for six months and commissioning in Louisiana for 3–5 years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers.
• Experience with Logicad and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred.
• Pickle Line and/or Rolling Mill process knowledge preferred.
• Willing to travel to support the project work; integration test in Germany for 6 months, commissioning in Louisiana, USA for 3–5 years.
• Problem solving skills, especially under time pressure during commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design and implementation of Level 1 control systems based on project requirements, SMS standards and reference projects.
• Perform Level 1 control system programming based on function descriptions for equipment related to the project.
• Collaborate with project management, mechanical, and Level 2 engineering teams.
• Participate in integration testing of the control system before shipment to the job site.
• Conduct on site commissioning and startup of Level 1 control systems for new plant installations.
• Train customer personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Service existing systems remotely and on-site interfacing with internal engineers and resources from other groups and locations.

Automation Engineer Level 1 Systems- Cold Mills

As a Level 1 Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering world-class automation solutions for rolling mill installations across global markets, working within a collaborative engineering team at the forefront of metals industry technology. Program, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for new installations of Hot Strip Mills and other applications in the metals industry. Program, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for new installations of Tandem Cold Mills and other applications in the metals industry.
