Job summary

Alfa Laval seeks an Automation Engineer Intern for an on-site role in Warrington, PA. You will support the Decanter portfolio through audits, CAD drawings, manuals, and portal setup, with travel 5–10% to field sites or FATs. A engineering degree path and hands-on skills are essential.

The internship develops skills in AutoCAD, Rockwell Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk ME while delivering real system integration tasks within a global team.

Responsibilities

  • Audit the Decanter Connect system's alarms and parameters.
  • Audit and update schematics, layouts, and interconnection drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Review and update the operator's manual.
  • Set up ALIOT portals for new customers and provide basic training.
  • Monitor ALIOT portal for the decanter portfolio and identify adverse trends.
  • Learn FT View and complete Feed Matrix Screen designs.
  • Learn Studio 5000 and complete code for Feed Matrix Interface.
  • Design a small-scale Solids Distribution system prototype.
  • Participate in local startup activities and FATs.

About the job

We are seeking an Automation Engineer Intern who is a self-motivated team player with the ability to easily network in an international and cross-cultural environment. You will have the opportunity to see solutions rather than problems and will prioritize and execute tasks that contribute to the overall success and growth of our organization. Currently, this is an On-Site opportunity located in Warrington, PA.

As a part of the team, you will:

The Automation Engineer Intern will be responsible for supporting the Engineering & Supply Decanter group in various engineering activities:

  • Assist with auditing the functionality of the Decanter Connect system: Alarms and Parameters.
  • Perform an audit of the standard drawing package of Schematics, Layout, and Interconnection Drawings and update as necessary using AutoCAD.
  • Assist reviewing and updating operator's manual.
  • Set up ALIOT (Alfa Laval Internet of Things) Portal folders for new customers and provide basic training to new customers on accessing the portal and viewing the data.
  • Monitor ALIOT portal for the decanter portfolio, especially the critical shutdown alarms such as Bearing vibration, temperature, and torque. Identify any adverse trends that might require further investigation.
  • Learn FT View and complete the Feed Matrix Screen design/development screens/interface.
  • Learn Studio 5000 and complete the code for the Feed Matrix Interface system.
  • Design and fabricate a small-scale version of a Solids Distribution system with Diverter Gates, level sensors, miniature conveyors to connect to the Decanter Connect Lab System.
  • Participate in local Start-up as available.
  • Participate in FATs (Factory Acceptance Test) at local Panel Shops.
What you know:

You are working towards a bachelor's degree in engineering with relevant experience/skills, and:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple short-term tasks.
  • Ability to work independently (this will be a hybrid position).
  • Ability to synthesize technical information from multiple sources.
  • Must be good at technical problem solving.
  • Must have a positive customer-focused attitude.
  • Strong PC skills including presentations, Excel, Adobe Connect, and Teams.
  • AutoCAD knowledge or experience a plus.
  • Rockwell Automation software suite including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk ME experience helpful (but will train).
  • Strong ability to collaborate with other automation and project managers team members.
  • Experience with the practical application of rotating equipment or manufacturing environment; pumps, valves, motors, electrical controls.
  • Some travel might be required (5% to 10%) to assist in field service, training, FAT at Panel Shop or Customer sites. Co-op Student will never be expected to travel alone and will always be with an Alfa Laval Employee.
