Job summary

Alfa Laval invites a Field Service Technician to join our Northeast US team. This remote, on-call role delivers preventive maintenance, repairs and training at customer sites on mechanical, electrical and electronic components to ensure reliable operation and efficiency.

Travel and on-site service execution are core duties. You will document actions, communicate safety parameters to customers and work with sales to identify spare parts.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with a strong mechanical background.
  • Over 5 years of experience in similar roles, with transmission systems expertise.
  • Competent mechanical skills and aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate operational and safety parameters to customers.
  • Customer service and sales orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Execute basic maintenance and minor repairs at customer sites.
  • Investigate and resolve basic technical problems on customer sites.
  • Prepare assigned service jobs according to the FSE Handbook.
  • Follow up on actions and promises made to customers.
  • Write service reports on site and obtain customer signatures.
  • Update service execution IT systems with relevant information.
  • Report unsafe practices and safety incidents.
  • Capture Installed Base on site and communicate sales leads to sales organization.
  • Proactively recommend spare parts to customers.
  • Execute services in Service Centers as required.

About the job

In this position the Field Service Technician is available for 24/7 on call field service labour, trouble shooting and service training at customer locations for mechanical, electrical, and electronic components such as decanters, high speed separators or heat exchangers to ensure reliable operation, optimum performance and efficiency. Must be able to manage travel costs and operating expenses associated with field service visits. You will play a pivotal role in performing preventive maintenance, emergency and warranty repairs.

Currently, this is a remote opportunity located in the Northeast of United States.

As a part of the team, you will:
  • Responsible for executing basic maintenance and minor repairs on selected products at customer sites.
  • Investigate and resolve basic technical problems on selected products with basic knowledge at customer sites.
  • Preparation of assigned service jobs according to the FSE Handbook.
  • Follow up on actions and promises made to customers.
  • Write service report on site and obtain customer's signature.
  • Update service execution IT systems with relevant information.
  • Report unsafe practices and other safety incidents according to local reporting procedures.
  • Capture Installed Base on site and communicate sales leads to sales organization.
  • Proactive recommendations to customers related to purchase of additional spare parts.
  • Execute services in our Service Centers as required.

What you know:
  • Associate’s degree with a strong mechanical background.
  • Over 5 years of experience in similar roles, with desirable expertise in transmission systems.
  • Competent mechanical skills and aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate Operational and Safety parameters for Alfa Laval equipment to the customer.
  • Customer service and sales orientation oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal & written skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot & solve technical problems.
  • Team Player and ability to work independently.
  • Basic PC utilization skills required in word, excel.
  • Ability to learn and use systems required for the administration of service and expense reports.
  • Perform jobs in line with OHSA requirements.
  • Complete established safety training programs.

The base salary for this role is typically $35 to $39 USD hourly.
