Aurora Innovation is seeking an Automation Engineer II to join IT Operations. You will build automation pipelines for onboarding/offboarding and the Slack-based IT support bot to resolve user issues in-thread, with auditable, scalable systems and governance automations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience, or an advanced degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript for building production automation and workflow tooling.
• Experience with Bash/shell scripting for systems-level automation tasks.
• Experience with event-driven architectures (webhooks, message queues) for triggering automated workflows.
• Experience building LLM-driven automations that make decisions and route work based on context.
• Experience designing and consuming REST/GraphQL APIs across multiple platforms and vendors.
• Familiarity with OAuth2.0/OIDC and API authentication patterns for secure integration.
• Experience building auditable, event-logged systems and driving projects from requirements to production.

Responsibilities

• Build automation for employee and contractor onboarding and offboarding workflows with repeatable, auditable processes.
• Develop the Slack-based IT support bot logic to resolve issues automatically without human tickets.
• Implement decision logic for automatic resolution vs escalation under guidance from leadership.
• Ensure full audit logging on all automated resolutions for post-run review.
• Identify high-volume manual tasks and translate patterns into automation projects.
• Implement governance automations to keep platforms in compliance without manual intervention.
• Build alerting pipelines for compliance drift and notify platform owners when thresholds are breached.
• Collaborate with IAM to build integrations for access reviews and provisioning into non-SCIM apps.
