Job summary

JMJ Phillip Group is seeking a seasoned Automation Engineer to enhance manufacturing operations through automation and controls engineering in the greater Tampa Bay, FL area.

The successful candidate will design and commission automation systems, lead CAPEX projects, troubleshoot complex systems, and support process improvements. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and strong experience with PLC and HMI/SCADA systems are required for this role.

Job description

We are seeking a seasoned Automation Engineer to support and enhance advanced manufacturing operations through automation, controls engineering, and process improvement initiatives in the greater Tampa Bay, FL area. This role will lead automation projects, troubleshoot complex systems, and drive operational efficiency across a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC, HMI/SCADA, servo, and industrial automation systems for manufacturing equipment and processes
• Lead automation and CAPEX projects from concept through implementation, including vendor coordination, timelines, budgeting, and safety compliance
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues to minimize downtime and improve system reliability
• Support process optimization initiatives through data analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement efforts
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment performance and plant operations

Candidates Must Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, or related technical field
• Strong experience with PLC programming platforms such as Studio 5000 / Rockwell, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial controls/servo systems
• Working knowledge of Python, SQL, and manufacturing data integration platforms such as Ignition
• Proven experience managing automation, controls, or capital improvement projects in a manufacturing environment
• Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and automation systems; robotics and basic mechanical design experience are a plus
