Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York seeks an Automation Engineer for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team. You will initiate, develop, and implement automated assays to boost lab throughput and efficiency, collaborating with Bioinformatics/IT to integrate outputs into LIMS.

You will calibrate and repair liquid handling equipment, create new automation protocols, and train staff on updated protocols. Schedule is Monday–Friday, on-site, with a competitive pay range.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field with lab nucleic acid experience.
  • Experience operating/scripting automated liquid handling systems (Revvity, Hamilton) and familiarity with Tecan/Beckman Biomek.
  • Ability to repair and troubleshoot liquid handling equipment and lab freezers.
  • Strong lab organization and ability to work independently and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop, test, and implement automated assays to increase throughput and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Bioinformatics/IT to integrate automation outputs into LIMS and systems.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and minimally repair lab instruments including liquid handling robots.
  • Create new automation protocols and scale throughput to meet lab needs.
  • Train technicians and staff; produce training guides and reference materials.

Exciting Employment Opportunity at MSK:

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team!

Role Overview:

Initiate, develop, test, and implement, the service’s automated assays to increase the operational and throughput efficiencies in the laboratory. Collaborates with the Bioinformatics and/or Information Technology (IT) teams to integrate automated laboratory solution data outputs into departmental systems such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Calibrate, maintain and minimally repair a variety of laboratory instruments, including liquid handling robotics Create new automation protocols on current equipment to meet the needs of the laboratory and scaling up sample throughput Training of technicians and professional staff on instrument use and updated automated protocols; Create user guides, reference guides, and all other training documents related to automation needs

Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field, plus laboratory experience in nucleic acid research laboratory
  • Experience operating and scripting of automated liquid handling systems, including Revvity and Hamilton liquid handling automation; experience with Tecan, Agilent, and/or Beckman Coulter (Biomek i Series), also be beneficial.
  • Ability to repair and troubleshoot issues that arise with liquid handling equipment, automated storage freezers and other general laboratory equipment
  • Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently are essential;
Core Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of molecular biology equipment, industry trends, automation and related protocols
  • Ability to multi-task
Additional Information:

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM, on-site

Pay Range: $83,800.00 - $134,000.00

FSLA Status: Exempt
