Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team. The role focuses on developing and implementing automated assays to improve laboratory throughput and reliability.

You will collaborate with Bioinformatics and IT teams, calibrate and service liquid handling robotics, and create new automation protocols. The position emphasizes hands-on training for staff and documentation for procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field with lab nucleic acid research experience.
Experience operating and scripting automated liquid handling systems (Revvity, Hamilton); familiarity with Tecan, Agilent, or Beckman Coulter Biomek is a plus.
Ability to repair and troubleshoot liquid handling equipment and general lab instruments.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced lab.

Responsibilities

Initiate, develop, test, and implement automated assays to improve laboratory throughput and efficiency.
Collaborate with Bioinformatics/IT to integrate automated outputs into LIMS and other systems.
Calibrate, maintain, and repair liquid handling systems and related equipment.
Create new automation protocols and training materials for laboratory staff.
Train technicians on instrument use and updated automation workflows.
