The Controls Specialist-Engineering Technician supports 4 Renewable Natural Gas facilities located in Central/Northern Indiana and Michigan and automation systems including: reciprocating compressor packages and ancillary equipment such as fans, pumps, air compressors, and cooling towers. The role involves examining, analyzing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing equipment for defects in operation. The Controls Specialist-Engineering Technician collaborates with Automation Engineers on project design and implementation utilizing major DCS, PLC, and Safety System or SCADA control system platforms. Occasionally, the technician will assist Mechanical Maintenance with troubleshooting and may work with Environmental Representatives to assess engine and compressor performance and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Troubleshoot and resolve automation and compressor controls issues that cannot be remedied at the local operations level, including failed starts, unit trips, and erratic operation of compressors, pumps, motors/VFDs.
2. Maintain and troubleshoot reciprocating engine and PLC code in compressor units and stations, including controllers and ancillary equipment, ESD, and safety systems.
3. Maintain and troubleshoot compressor station HMI node programs and support HMI hardware.
4. Provide technical input during capital project phases such as scoping, design review, and commissioning.
5. Review and implement company standards in PLC programming and HMI development.
6. Maintain and upgrade Data Historian hardware and software, support SCADA data transfer, and Historian reporting.
7. Support multiple control platforms including Inductive Automation - Ignition, RS Panel View, and Rockwell/Allen Bradley.
8. Assist in establishing automation standards for reporting to Gas Purchasing and Operations.
9. Support technical training for Controls Specialists/Operators and contribute to E&C Technician progression programs.
10. Provide technical advice and basic troubleshooting support to Controls Specialists/Operators and site leadership.
11. Identify opportunities for performance improvements and implement plans for reliability enhancements.
12. Analyze and correct equipment and instrumentation failures using HART smart communicators, Fluke 475, and other tools.
13. Provide support for Third Party Vendors working on compressor station, instrumentation, and analyzer systems.
14. Support Environmental Representatives and testing groups in resolving emissions testing issues.
15. Implement solutions and corrective actions for issues identified by Vendor Service Bulletins.
16. Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating discipline and self-motivation.
17. Support the identification and prioritization of capital and O&M improvement projects.
