Job summary

LifeMade Products LLC in Louisville, KY, seeks an Automation Engineer to collaborate with Sales, Engineering and Operations to specify and quote automation meeting customer expectations. You will provide machine requirements with assembly rates and manning for quoting and specify general automation designs for new assembly lines.

You will run vendor validations, lead DFMEA/risk management, and coordinate installation and operation validations while driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Five years of injection molding, automation design and build, and project management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of automation design and construction techniques.
• Proficient with 3D CAD (SolidWorks).
• Proficiency with project management tools (Gantt charts, timelines, change control, budgets).
• Strong organizational and planning skills with problem-solving abilities.
• Detail oriented with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent teamwork and communication across levels, including customers and suppliers.
• Black belt or lean experience preferred.
• Experience with installation and operation validations.

Job description

This position reports to the Director of Engineering and has three key areas of responsibility: 1) Work with Sales and Engineering and operations to specify and quote automation that meet both the internal and external customer expectations. Provide machine requirements with assembly rates and manning requirements for quoting purposes.

2) Specify general automation designs, components and controls for new assembly requirements. 3) Conduct machine run offs at vendors to verify quality, function and performance to specifications. Work environment includes complex injection molding tooling and automation for Consumer Products.

Specific Responsibilities

• Creates and Issues User Requirement Specifications and automation request for quotes of new assembly cells utilizing an approved vendors list. Drives achievement of agreed-to deliverables to internal and external customers by working closely with cross functional manufacturing and project teams to execute projects for molding and assembly per customer and company requirements and specifications.
• Specifies general automation design approach including materials and controls to provide robust solutions to meet customer quality and capacity expectations while meeting the plants expectations for OEE, quality and safety.
• Responsible for approving automation designs prior to start of system build.
• Supports Operations Team in technical subject matter execution, creation of project plans, schedules, budgets, and task lists, per documented procedures, to execute projectsand assure delivery, quality, safety, and cost objectives are met.
• Takes the initiative to collaborate with plant operations, quality, and technical team members on continuous

improvement initiatives, including DOE’ sand other data driven processes to support decision making.

• Supports Mold and Assembly Automation Validations through successful completion (customer approval); Writes capital request and assures validation of equipment and processes where required.
• Involvement and/or lead DFM, FMEA and risk management activities both internally and externally.
• Leads and coordinates ongoing maintenance efforts, as it relates to retroactive and preventative maintenance, while utilizing the company IQS database and establish machine records for each event.
• Supports other technical activities or projects within the facility, as requested by Director of Engineering.
• Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the Company and outside parties.
