Job summary

LifeMade Products LLC, an operating company of Jadex Inc, designs tabletop solutions for retail and foodservice. The Senior Automation Engineer will collaborate with Sales, Engineering and Operations to specify automation, quote cell builds, and define machine requirements and manning for quoting.

You will specify automation designs, lead run-offs at vendors, drive continuous improvement with DOE and risk management, and support validations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Five years’ experience in injection molding, automation design and build, project management and processes.
• Extensive knowledge of automation design and construction techniques.
• Proficient with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
• Proficiency in program management tools such as Gantt charts, timelines, change control and budgets.
• Strong organizational and planning capabilities with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Detail oriented and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional teamwork and communication skills, including ability to work across levels and with customers/suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Creates and issues User Requirement Specifications and automation RFQ for new assembly cells with approved vendors.
• Specifies general automation design approach including materials and controls for robust solutions.
• Approves automation designs prior to system build.
• Supports Operations with project plans, schedules, budgets, and task lists to ensure delivery and cost objectives.
• Collaborates with plant operations, quality, and technical teams on continuous improvement initiatives (DOE and data-driven decisions).
• Supports mold and assembly validations; writes capital requests and validates equipment and processes.
• Leads DFM, FMEA and risk management activities.
• Leads ongoing maintenance efforts and maintains machine records for events.
• Supports other technical activities requested by Director of Engineering.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships internally and with customers/suppliers.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering and has three key areas of responsibility: 1) Work with Sales and Engineering and operations to specify and quote automation that meet both the internal and external customer expectations. Provide machine requirements with assembly rates and manning requirements for quoting purposes.2) Specify general automation designs, components and controls for new assembly requirements. 3) Conduct machine run offs at vendors to verify quality, function and performance to specifications. Work environment includes complex injection molding tooling and automation for Consumer Products.

Specific Responsibilities

• Creates and Issues User Requirement Specifications and automation request for quotes of new assembly cells utilizing an approved vendors list. Drives achievement of agreed-to deliverables to internal and external customers by working closely with cross functional manufacturing and project teams to execute projects for molding and assembly per customer and company requirements and specifications.
• Specifies general automation design approach including materials and controls to provide robust solutions to meet customer quality and capacity expectations while meeting the plants expectations for OEE, quality and safety.
• Responsible for approving automation designs prior to start of system build.
• Supports Operations Team in technical subject matter execution, creation of project plans, schedules, budgets, and task lists, per documented procedures, to execute projects and assure delivery, quality, safety, and cost objectives are met.
• Takes the initiative to collaborate with plant operations, quality, and technical team members on continuous improvement initiatives, including DOE’s and other data driven processes to support decision making.
• Supports Mold and Assembly Automation Validations through successful completion (customer approval); writes capital request and assures validation of equipment and processes where required.
• Involvement and/or lead DFM, FMEA and risk management activities both internally and externally.
• Leads and coordinates ongoing maintenance efforts, as it relates to retroactive and preventive maintenance, while utilizing the company IQS database and establish machine records for each event.
• Supports other technical activities or projects within the facility, as requested by Director of Engineering.
• Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the Company and outside parties.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Five years’ experience in injection molding, automation design and build, project management and processes.

• Proficiency in Program management tools required, such as Gannt charts, timelines, change control and budgets,

• Must be detail oriented, able to meet deadlines on complex projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to get things done and meet commitments by working with and through others; requires being able to establish effective work relationships at all levels, internally and with customers/suppliers
• Black belt or lean experience preferred.
• Experience with Project Management of installation and operation validations.
• Maintains the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting at workstation approximately 50% of work time. Standing and walking approximately 50% of work time.
• Must be able to travel 15%-25% of work time.
• Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
• Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
• Typical floor environment is temperature controlled; requires safety glasses, safety shoes and ear plugs.
