Job summary

TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking an engineer to lead special projects in injection molding and automated manufacturing. The role drives tooling design, supplier coordination, and process improvements across manufacturing cells.

The candidate will support APQP, PFMEA, and DFM in development stages, lead validation trials, and ensure quality and lean objectives are met. Travel to facilities may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 4+ years in injection molding facilities.
  • Experience in automated work cells and mold design review.

Responsibilities

  • Identify enhancements in molding/automation workcells for cost, quality, safety.
  • Review and approve new mold tooling designs with suppliers and provide specs.
  • Run off tooling at supplier site and approve for acceptance and shipping.
  • Assist APQP development including PFMEA, process flows and WIs.
  • Support production to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to product design for DFM and customer requirements.
  • Support Quality and Environmental Mgmt Systems.
  • Lead validation trials and design tests for processes/materials.
  • Develop tool specs, processes and training procedures.
  • Use root-cause analysis to reduce downtime and defects; implement corrective actions.
  • Champion scrap reduction and lean manufacturing in area.
  • Work toward facility goals and measurables.
  • Comply with ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949 and safety rules.
  • On-call for production support; may perform other duties.

Job description

Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of Injection Molding and Automated manufacturing operations. Leads design reviews, development and procurement of molding/automation equipment and tooling. Provides direction and development other mold and automation engineers. Some travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Identify and pursue potential enhancements in new or existing molding/automation workcells that would result in cost savings, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvements. Troubleshoot quality and processing concerns on new tooling and equipment, then implement correction action.
  • Reviewing and approving new mold tooling designs with suppliers and providing specifications to suppliers to meet our equipment and manufacturing requirements.
  • Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier location, approving for acceptance and shipping. Inspect and verify incoming tooling and equipment to ensure they meet original build specifications.
  • Supports APQP development for new products, completing project launch and tracking systems tasks as assigned by programs. Including development of PFMEA’s, Process Flows and BTO Work Instructions.
  • Must actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to product design during the development stage to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principals, customer functional, and aesthetic requirements are considered.
  • Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Leads validation trials, feasibility studies, design tests for performance of processes and materials.
  • Assists with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
  • Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
  • Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supports, contributes, and demonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
  • Continuously works toward achieving goals and measurables of the facility.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949, including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Required to be on call and responsive to production support needs of the facility
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline with minimum 4 years directly related experience in an injection molding manufacturing facility or substantial injection molding experience with proven capabilities.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Automated work cell environment and mold design review and approvals.
  • CAD software experience (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
  • Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
