Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is seeking a hands-on technician to develop, design, build, and test robotic platforms from prototype through product commercialization. You will create integrated autonomous interfaces, mobility, communication, and human-robot interaction while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes working with established procedures, staying detail-oriented, and documenting test activities.

Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree or equivalent with 1–2 years of experience.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and quality guidelines to complete tasks on time.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and documentation skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development and implementation of automation systems or components.
  • Support installation, testing and maintenance of robots or automated parts.
  • Assist in commissioning and deployment of new automation, conduct field trials and document results.
  • Troubleshoot defects, perform repairs and provide preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of testing and maintenance supplies and tools.

Job Summary

Develops, designs, builds and tests robotic platforms from prototype through product commercialization. Creates an integrated autonomous interface, mobility, communication, and human‑robot interaction. Works with cross‑functional teams to understand opportunities for robotic applications.

  • Requires basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process
  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines
  • Works with close supervision
  • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures
Essential Functions
  • Assists with the development and implementation of automation systems or components.
  • Supports or performs the program installation, testing, and maintenance of robots or automated components.
  • Assists in the commissioning and deployment of new automation installations, conducts field trials to ensure appropriate operation, and prepares reports or records documenting actions or findings.
  • Investigates and troubleshoots defects or bugs, completes repairs, and provides preventative maintenance.
  • Maintains the inventory of supplies and tools used for testing and maintenance.
Required Qualifications
  • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 1-2 years’ experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & Experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred education and experience: Associate’s Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Detail oriented. Problem‑solving skills. Mathematical skills. Computer skills. Technical skills. Technical troubleshooting. Test documentation. Control systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
