Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) in Lincoln, NE, seeks an Automation Eng Sr Technician to design, test, and implement robotic automation platforms from prototype to product commercialization. They will work with cross-functional teams on autonomous interfaces, mobility, and human-robot interaction.

The Alternate 12 Hour Weekend A Shift runs Friday 6:30 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday to 7:00 pm.

Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree with 2–5 years’ experience or equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Technical Training major preferred.
  • Strong communication, deadlines, detail orientation, problem-solving, math, computer, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with the development and implementation of automation systems or components.
  • Program, install, test, and maintain robots or automated components.
  • Assist in the commissioning and deployment of new automation installations, conducts field trials to ensure appropriate operation, and prepares reports or records documenting actions or findings.
  • Investigate and troubleshoots defects or bugs, complete repairs and provides preventative maintenance.

Job Summary

Develops, designs, builds and tests robotic platforms from prototype through product commercialization. Creates an integrated autonomous interface, mobility, communication, and human-robot interaction. Works with cross-functional teams to understand opportunities for robotic applications.

Alternate 12 Hour Weekend A Shift: Friday morning 6:30 am - 7:00 pm Sunday evening

Position Location Detail: This position is located at our GD Lincoln West facility.

General Profile
  • Requires working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical scientific or operational processes
  • Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise
  • Works within standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods
  • Works with a moderate degree of supervision
  • Performs manual tasks according to established procedures
Essential Functions
  • Assists engineers with the development and implementation of automation systems or components.
  • Programs, installs, tests, and maintains robots or automated components.
  • Assists in the commissioning and deployment of new automation installations, conducts field trials to ensure appropriate operation, and prepares reports or records documenting actions or findings.
  • Investigate and troubleshoots defects or bugs, complete repairs and provides preventative maintenance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Programs and troubleshoots PLCs and associated control systems.
  • Reads and understands equipment schematics.
  • Designs simple electronic control systems, specifies control equipment, builds and installs control systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 2-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred education and experience: Associate's Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Technical Training Preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Detail oriented. Problem-solving skills. Mathematic skills. Computer skills. Technical skills. Leadership skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
