Job summary

Van Meter seeks an Automation Design Engineer to collaborate with Solution Architects and implement automation solutions for manufacturing clients. The role emphasizes control systems, advanced automation, and standardization of practices across projects.

Responsibilities include designing, documenting, and delivering scalable automation solutions with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, MCCs, and industrial networks, while working with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in design engineering, engineering, product design, industrial design, or related field, and/or 3-5 years’ previous experience in industry.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with automation systems & programming is preferred.
• Experience with engineering design tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with customers and team members to gather essential information for creating functional descriptions, scopes of work, RFPs, system designs, and/or solutions.
• Travel to customer site may be required.
• Analyze existing manufacturing processes and production metrics to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
• Review functional specifications and design solutions to meet requirements.
• Define scopes of work using Work Breakdown Structure and estimate hours for completion.
• Prepare competitively priced solutions while maximizing company profitability.
• Present designs and solutions to internal & external stakeholders.
• Implement design & solutions at the customer site and oversee technical implementation to ensure adherence to design & specifications.
• Collaborate to create and maintain automation standards.
• Support other engineers, managers, and sales team.
• Research and evaluate new technologies to evolve customer offerings.
• Identify areas to build efficiencies when analyzing and implementing solutions.
• Prepare documentation such as testing protocols and manuals.
• Ensure compliance with Industry safety standards.
• Prepare and maintain detailed and accurate reports.
• Craft models and drawings of products & systems.
• Assist in training the sales team on products & solutions.
