Job summary

MSI Express in Burns Harbor, IN is seeking a Mechanical Electrical Controls Technician to maintain and optimize electrical control systems and automation at a single food manufacturing site.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and drives, perform preventive maintenance, and collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production to ensure equipment uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance (HACCP, GMP, FDA/USDA).

Qualifications

• 3+ years of controls or automation experience in food manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and sensors.
• Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and food safety requirements in regulated settings.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and control diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and control wiring across production and utilities.
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment and control panels.
• Maintain documentation including wiring diagrams, program backups, and change logs for audits.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams on upgrades and capital projects.
