Job summary

Forte Opening Solutions seeks an Automation Controls Technician to program, troubleshoot, repair, and install PLCs and related control systems on our plant equipment. You will work with maintenance electricians and partner with OEMs to resolve PLC issues, while mentoring others and contributing to continuous improvement.

You should have an Associate Degree in electronics or computer fields and 2–3 years in high-speed automation, with Rockwell RSLogix/Beckhoff experience and strong

• LOTO, Arc Flash safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical or communications/network issues to identify root causes.
• Perform preventive maintenance per scheduled plans.
• Support PLCs, HMIs, drives, robotics, and PC-based controls; work with OEMs on PLC issues.
• Program edits to PC/PLC; configure systems for startup and operation.
• Mentor maintenance personnel on PLCs, HMIs, drives and PC controls.
• Develop and modify RSLogix / Beckhoff PLC software; document changes and specs.
• Maintain SOPs and ensure safety and compliance.

This is a first shift position.Overview:The Automation Controls Technician programs, troubleshoots, repairs and installs electronic and programmable logic controllers, circuitry and PC boards into plant manufacturing equipment and machinery. Works closely with and trains maintenance electricians to perform daily tasks. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of basic electrical and electronic theory including AC/DC theory, PLC ladder logic, motor controls, solid state and semi-conductor circuit theory and lasers. The position requires knowledge of general test equipment application including multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic probes as well as basic knowledge of the National Electric Code and how it applies to industrial installations.Duties & Responsibilities:Perform electrical, mechanical or communications/networking troubleshooting to determine problems and resolution.Proactively conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventive maintenance duties in accordance with recommended schedules.Provide support for all electronic format data, process parameters, hardware and systems such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), servo motion controllers, HMIs, drives, robotics, intelligent sensors and devices, PC based systems, production data networks, and SCADA level systems.Performs setup, calibrations, and preventative maintenance on production equipment.Provides input and directs activities of operators and inspections related to plant procedures and processes.Work with equipment OEM’s to resolve PLC related equipment issues.Must be willing to incorporate a flexible schedule to work on equipment and/or resolve equipment issues.Enforces process standard operating procedures and process disciplines.Create CAG’s (corrective action guidelines)Use native software development programs, actively monitor, run histograms, troubleshoot, or make controlled edits to PC / PLC programs or machine configurations in order to troubleshoot or improve operations.Perform PC & PLC based control systems configuration, start-up and maintenance support.Develop and modify RS Logix PLC software, Beckhoff PC based controls for manufacturing equipment.Maintain records of all program changes, assembly drawings and product specifications.Mentor and train maintenance personnel on PLC’s, HMIs, drives, and PC based controls.Troubleshoot both hardware and software systems that control the AFL process machinery, including high-power systems up to 480-volt 3 phase and control circuits of 24 volts and 200 volts, 4 to 20 milliamp and 0 to 10 volts.Performs all necessary routine maintenance, including planning and tracking, utilizing maintenance management software TBD.Instruct production operators on equipment use and proper operation.Perform preventative maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis.Any other duties as assigned.Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Associate Degree in Electronics or Computer related field2-3 years experience of electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, repair and maintenance in a high-speed automation environment; Strong experience in Rockwell Automation, Automation Direct, or similar type of Software PLC’s & HMI’s, PC based software, Motion Control and Robotics; 1-2 years’ experience in a high-volume lean manufacturing/continuous flow operations a plusLock Out/Tag Out, confined space, Arc Flash (LOTO, Arc Flash).Ability to use AutoCAD, as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite based products.Strong ability to analyze and interpret data including equipment manuals and schematics and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills such as CNC and PLC troubleshooting.Must have a demonstrated working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls aspect of factory automation systems and the integration of devices used.Formal training in PLC & PC controller programming is required.
