Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Hickory, NC is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern to assist in the design, build and test of automation equipment under the supervision of a controls engineer. Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related engineering discipline from ABET‑accredited university.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Familiarity with hand tools, multimeters, and standard electrical test equipment.
• Available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May–August 2027) with graduation in 2027 or later.
• Willing to work at the posted job location.
• Interest in Corning, Inc. after graduation for full‑time opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in supervised equipment troubleshooting, debugging, I/O checkout, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Program and debug PLCs and HMIs.
• Assist with wiring, assembly, and layout design.
• Champion a safe working environment in alignment with Corning's safety standards.
