Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Automation (Instrumentation & Controls) Engineering intern to join our Dallas office in Summer 2027. You will work with a team of engineers on a diverse portfolio of public, federal, and industrial projects, contributing to SCADA design, instrumentation, and P&ID drawing creation.

The role involves basic instrument design, HMI/PLC concepts, and assisting with testing and startup.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled toward a Bachelors or Masters in Chemical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related field.
• Interest in instrumentation, controls and automation engineering.
• Willing to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, creates basic instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
• Reviews simple component level shop drawings.
• Creates basic human-machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), reports, etc.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Assists with testing and startup of instrumentation, controls and related systems.
