Job summary
Kennametal Inc. is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer specializing in Controls and Automation to advance manufacturing automation across facilities.
The role requires hands-on expertise in PLC programming, robotics, motion control, and industrial networking, with a focus on safety and reliability. The ideal candidate will work independently and with cross-functional teams to design, troubleshoot, and improve automated equipment, while supporting multiple locations and driving cost reductions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in a technical field.
- 10+ years of hands-on controls engineering or automation experience.
- Extensive PLC programming and control systems expertise.
- Experience with robotics, material handling, servo systems, and motion control.
- Strong knowledge of safety systems and safety PLCs.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA development preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automated manufacturing equipment.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens or equivalents).
- Diagnose issues with controls, sensors, motors, drives, relays, safety circuits, and panels.
- Ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards.
- Support installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment.
- Collaborate with suppliers and integrators on automation solutions.
- Lead or support projects to improve safety, quality, throughput, and costs.
- Collaborate with electricians and maintenance for improvements.
- Provide training and mentoring to engineers and technicians.
- Support transfers and drive standardization across sites.
