Job summary

Piston Automotive, part of the Piston Group, is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, document, develop and improve control systems for production. You will support SOP through EOP, assist in RFQs, and transfer equipment documentation to the plant.

Expect collaboration with vendors and cross-functional teams to achieve lean manufacturing goals. Qualifications include 2+ years in controls, a engineering degree, and experience with PLCs, vision systems, and HMI programming.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Controls Engineer or Maintenance Technician.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related programming field.
• 2-4 years of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley Micro Logic, SLC 500, ControlLogix 5000) for various cells.
• 2-4 years programming Vision Systems (Cognex, DVT, Keyence).
• 2-4 years HMI programming (PanelView).
• 2-4 years with JIT, SPD, ILVS and Batch manufacturing systems.
• 2 years with Manual and Automated Assembly Systems and Technologies.
• 2 years with MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, RSLogix 5000/500, RSView.

Responsibilities

• Analyze machine performance and requirements using PLCs.
• Plan, coordinate, implement and track projects.
• Develop and track capital investment budgets.
• Interface with automation vendors for control solutions.
• Provide controls guidance in equipment selection and operations.
• Integrate PCs and PLCs via TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP.
• Support controls issues to minimize downtime.
• Drive lean concepts (5S, OEE, Kanban, Visual Factory, TPM).
• Implement process improvements including automation.
• Collaborate on communications, design reviews, capacity analyses.
• Support Purchasing in evaluating new suppliers/tech.
• Benchmark processes and equipment to inform standards.
• Guide Maintenance Technicians to strengthen the team.
