Job summary

CertainTeed is seeking an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to design, implement, and optimize electrical and control systems across a multi‑plant environment. You will lead projects, coordinate with contractors, and drive reliability improvements while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety.

The role requires hands‑on problem solving, PLC programming (ControlLogix), HMI development (Ignition/Wonderware), and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Electrical preferred).
• Minimum 3 years in a Controls & Automation role in continuous process manufacturing.
• Hands-On problem solver with on-site and remote support capabilities.
• Programming of Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix) required.
• HMI development using Ignition or Wonderware required.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA-70, NFPA-86, NFPA-87 standards.
• Industrial networking knowledge: TCP/IP, Modbus, Modbus TCP, HART.
• Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (AOI, UDT).
• Experience with Process Control Panels design/specification.
• Experience with 4-20 mA / 1-5 V sensors and MCC distribution.
• AutoCAD drafting proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and commission plant automation systems including PLCs, HMI/SCADA, MES data collection, and IIoT networks; execute retrofit projects.
• Direct contractors, third‑party controls, engineering partners, and suppliers.
• Prepare, schedule, coordinate, monitor, and provide project status.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities with a team of technicians.
• Review production data to identify efficiency opportunities and implement improvements.
• Maintain electrical equipment to meet regulatory codes at state and federal levels.
• Provide after‑hours support during downtime events.
• Collaborate with Production and Engineering Managers to coordinate process changes.
