Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer in Mapleton, IL to design, implement, and optimize advanced manufacturing technologies that boost safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with automation, controls, and digital manufacturing initiatives is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and project leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, program, commission, and support manufacturing automation systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics).
• Lead automation projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and handoff within budget and schedule.
• Troubleshoot complex controls, software, network, and equipment issues to minimize downtime.
• Drive Industry 4.0, IIoT, data integration, and advanced analytics across operations.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, IT, and suppliers to ensure safety, cybersecurity, and standards compliance.
