Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to design, implement, and optimize advanced manufacturing technologies across our Mapleton, IL operations.

You will lead projects spanning PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, and IIoT to boost safety, quality, and productivity. Collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, IT, and Engineering is essential to drive data‑driven improvements and digital transformation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in automation, mechatronics, manufacturing, electrical engineering, or related field.
Experience designing and implementing automation projects across manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of Industry 4.0, IIoT, data analytics, and digital transformation.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, program, commission, and support manufacturing automation systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, machine vision).
Lead automation and modernization projects to improve safety, quality, throughput, and reliability.
Troubleshoot complex controls, software, network, and equipment issues to minimize downtime.
