Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer for the AI Satellites (Starmind) program. You will own the manufacturing line for hardware enabling on-orbit AI processing, covering assembly, integration, and testing of high-performance compute electronics.

In this role you will design and implement PLC code, ensure safety systems are compliant, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable automation for a demanding space environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an engineering, physics, or computer science discipline.
1+ years of experience in industrial or factory automation design and implementation or involvement with a project team designing and building electro-mechanical/robotic/automated systems or products.
Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones.
ITAR compliance requirements for U.S. government export regulations.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and manage automation projects with factory ideation, commissioning, and hand-off to operations.
Architect, write, and debug PLC code with structured, maintainable approaches for high-volume manufacturing.
Ensure factory safety and reliability by applying ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant systems for robots and equipment.
Create simple, user-friendly HMI screens for complex machines.
Design electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, & UL508A regulations.
Plan schedules and budgets and motivate the team to achieve them.
