An engineering and manufacturing firm in the Phoenix area is hiring an Automation Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, and commissioning of industrial automation systems. This role is ideal for a hands‑on controls engineer who enjoys working directly with equipment, solving real production problems, and owning systems from design through startup.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and support PLC-based control systems for manufacturing and industrial equipment
• Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
• Create and maintain HMI and SCADA applications for machine and process control
• Design and review electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and I/O documentation
• Integrate sensors, instrumentation, motors, VFDs, and safety devices into control systems
• Support system testing, commissioning, and startup activities
• Troubleshoot automation, electrical, and control system issues to minimize downtime
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver reliable solutions
• Assist with system upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Controls, or equivalent hands‑on experience
• 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
• PLC programming experience in a manufacturing, OEM, or industrial environment
• Experience with HMI development and control system troubleshooting
• Ability to read and create electrical drawings and schematics
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
• VFDs, motion control, or robotics experience
• Familiarity with machine safety standards and safety PLCs
• Commissioning or field startup experience
• On‑site role based in Phoenix, AZ
• Hands‑on interaction with machinery, control panels, and production equipment
• Limited travel may be required for commissioning or support
