Automation Build Technician – Assemble and Install

Job summary

Samuel, Son & Co. assembles custom automated equipment according to engineering drawings and customer specifications. You will build, install, and troubleshoot mechanical assemblies, ensuring precise fitting and alignment to meet performance expectations.

Under guidance from the Manufacturing Manager and senior technicians, you will lead small team members, support apprentices, and travel to customer sites for installation and onsite service while upholding safety policies.

Qualifications

• A Certificate as a Machine Builder, Machinist, Maintenance Technician, or equivalent work experience.
• Two years’ experience in building custom automated machines.
• Two years’ experience reading and interpreting drawings and solid models; knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and machine tools (Knee Mill, Surface Grinder, Lathe).
• Two years’ experience using computers and computer software.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel to customer sites for installation and service.

Responsibilities

• Assemble manufactured and purchased components in accordance with assembly drawings, design packages, and customer specifications.
• Establish floor plan layouts and support the build of systems and sub-assemblies, including electro-mechanical devices and automated equipment.
• Perform machine build integration and installation tasks, including system setup, alignment, troubleshooting, and repair or replacement of defective components.
• Assume responsibility for the complete assembly, installation, and validation of machine systems.
• Verify components are correct for the build and ensure proper handling of materials.
• Adhere to project schedules and contribute to continuous improvement on future builds.
• Mentor apprentices and Level 1 Assemblers and provide guidance.
• Collaborate with the team to solve problems and maintain manufacturing standards.
• Report workmanship or design concerns to the Manufacturing Manager.
• Participate in equipment tear-down and shipping preparation.
• Travel to customer installation sites to install custom assemblies and support onsite service.
• Perform all duties safely in accordance with Health and Safety policies.
