Job summary

Anderson Biro, LLC is seeking an Automatic Punch Press Operator for 1st shift (Mon-Thu, 6am-4:30pm). You will set up, operate, and monitor progressive die punch presses to produce quality metal stampings safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities include inspecting tooling, maintaining quality, and achieving production rates while following safety procedures. Prior experience in metal stamping is preferred.

Qualifications

We are seeking an Automatic Punch Press Operator on 1st shift (M-Th, 6am-4:30pm) who is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring progressive die punch presses to produce high-quality metal stampings in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. This position requires the ability to perform complete press setups, conduct inspections, maintain quality standards, and achieve established production rates while adhering to safety and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Inspection & Preparation

• Perform daily safety inspections on punch press equipment prior to operation.
• Conduct routine press maintenance checks.
• Verify tooling readiness and condition before setup and production.
• Ensure all safety devices and controls are functioning properly.

Work Order Review

• Review and understand all production documentation, including:
  • Dispatch Lists and production schedules
  • Work Orders and process instructions
  • Material Pick Lists
  • Stamping Setup Sheets
  • Inspection and quality documentation
• Confirm availability of required materials, gauges, containers, labels, and tooling before production begins.

Press Setup

• Set up progressive die punch presses according to job specifications.
• Load coil stock and thread material through feed systems.
• Adjust straighteners and feeders for proper material flow.
• Align, install, and secure dies.
• Connect lubrication systems, die protection devices, sensors, conveyors, and scrap handling equipment.
• Configure press controls including shut height, strokes per minute (SPM), counterbalance, and safety systems.
• Operate modern press control systems such as Smart Pac II and Link 5000.
• Utilize hand tools and precision measuring instruments including:
  • Micrometers
  • Calipers
  • Indicators
  • Scales

Quality Assurance

• Perform first-piece inspections and verify setup accuracy before production.
• Conduct in-process inspections according to control plans and quality standards.
• Utilize attribute and variable gauges as required.
• Collect and document Statistical Process Control (SPC) data when necessary.
• Identify and report non-conforming materials or products.
• Stop production when quality standards are not met until issues are resolved.

Production Operations

• Operate punch press equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain established production rates and run times.
• Continuously monitor equipment during operation.
• Record labor hours, production quantities, and job status accurately in company systems.
• Coordinate material deliveries, scrap removal, and finished goods movement with Material Handlers.
• Report tooling issues, equipment malfunctions, and production concerns to the Production Supervisor.

Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience

• Previous experience as an Automatic Punch Press Operator or Setup Operator.
• Demonstrated ability to safely set up and operate progressive die punch presses.
• Experience working in a metal stamping manufacturing environment preferred.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of punch press setup and operation.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, setup sheets, and inspection documents.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment.
• Understanding of SPC and quality control processes.
