Sets up and operates press equipment to form, punch, size, or otherwise process clamp components in accordance with engineering drawings, manufacturing routings, work instructions, quality requirements, and established safety procedures.
- Sets up and operates presses and associated tooling to form, punch, size, or process clamp components in accordance with approved manufacturing documentation.
- Reads and follows engineering drawings, manufacturing routings, work instructions, setup sheets, and applicable specifications.
- Loads and positions material or parts in dies, fixtures, and workholding devices and removes completed parts using safe handling practices.
- Installs or assists with installation of approved dies, fixtures, and tooling and verifies alignment, guarding, and setup condition before production.
- Sets or verifies press pressure, stroke, dwell, stops, and other authorized machine settings in accordance with the setup documentation.
- Performs first-piece and in-process inspection using calipers, micrometers, height gages, templates, fixtures, and other specified measuring equipment.
- Monitors machine operation, part quality, tooling condition, and material flow; stops the operation and reports unsafe conditions, defects, or abnormal equipment behavior.
- Performs approved secondary operations such as deburring, cleaning, straightening, or part handling as required by the manufacturing process.
- Records production quantities, scrap, labor, inspection results, lot information, and other required traceability data accurately and completely.
- Performs routine operator checks and housekeeping and reports leaks, damaged tooling, guarding issues, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Follows all press-safety requirements, machine guarding, point-of-operation controls, lockout/tagout rules, PPE requirements, and established material-handling practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of stamping press operation and basic metal-forming, punching, sizing, or related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, manufacturing routings, setup sheets, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
- Knowledge of press tooling, dies, fixtures, part orientation, and basic setup practices appropriate to the assigned equipment.
- Understanding of point-of-operation hazards, machine guarding, safeguarding devices, and safe press operation.
- Ability to use calipers, micrometers, height gages, templates, and basic inspection equipment.
- Ability to recognize dimensional, forming, cracking, burr, alignment, and cosmetic defects.
- Ability to perform basic shop mathematics using decimals, fractions, and measurements.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify abnormal press operation, tooling wear, leaks, and unsafe conditions.
- Ability to maintain production pace while meeting safety, quality, traceability, and housekeeping requirements.
- Familiarity with AS9100, configuration control, nonconforming material controls, and traceability is preferred.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems, production reporting, and continuous improvement preferred.
Education & experience
- High school diploma or GED required; related manufacturing or metalworking training is preferred.
- One to three years related hydraulic press, stamping, forming, or manufacturing experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical aptitude to understand press equipment, tooling, inspection requirements, and blueprints.
