Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in College Park, MD is seeking an engineer to own automated optical inspection for ion trap chips and QPUs. You will control the equipment, define inspection recipes, calibrate systems, and ensure repeatable results across packaging stages.

You will also build data capture pipelines, certificates of conformance, and reporting. A hands-on background in photonics, MEMS or semiconductor contexts is preferred.

Qualifications

• Three or more years with automated inspection, machine vision or optical metrology.
• Strong Python or similar, applied to instrument control, image processing or data automation.
• Experience organizing technical data, databases, pipelines or automated reporting.
• Background in semiconductor, advanced packaging, photonics or MEMS recommended.
• Comfortable working hands-on in a cleanroom or laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the automated optical inspection platform from installation through qualification and uptime.
• Develop inspection recipes that reliably detect and classify micron-scale defects.
• Build automated capture, storage and reporting of trap chip and QPU data.
• Produce certificates of conformance that are repeatable and auditable.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors on selection, acceptance and troubleshooting.
