Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in College Park, MD, is seeking a hands-on packaging technician to join a small team building quantum hardware. You will train on the full packaging workflow and, once qualified, run processes for small, high-value components with meticulous care.

The role focuses on cleanroom work, precise assembly, inspection, data collection, and ongoing collaboration with engineers. Ideal candidates have 2+ years in high-tech manufacturing and strong manual skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hands-on experience in a high-tech manufacturing, lab, or precision-assembly environment.
• Demonstrated fine motor skill with small components; professional microscope work or microelectronics rework is valued.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and procedures; know when to stop if needed.
• Comfort spending ~80% of the day in a cleanroom, fully gowned, performing physical or repetitive work.
• Reliable; team dependability and punctuality are important.
• Clear written and verbal communication; basic proficiency with Google Workspace or MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Execute released procedures to clean, assemble, bond, inspect, and test packaged ion traps and related hardware.
• Operate complex packaging equipment.
• Handle small, fragile components under a microscope with care.
• Perform incoming inspection, record results, and complete travelers and reports.
• Collect process data and provide first-pass interpretation; flag trends to engineering.
• Draft recipe or program adjustments within engineer-defined limits.
• Support daily cleanroom operations: 5S, cleaning, restocking, preparing parts.
