Position Overview
Automotive Technician (Auto Worker) – Location: Washington, D.C. (Naval Research Laboratory). Full Time, Non-Exempt. Day Shift, Monday–Friday.
Compensation: $29.30–$29.30/hr plus $2,500 sign‑on bonus.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) and repair services per technical manuals.
- Service and transport equipment such as forklifts, generators, lawn maintenance equipment.
- Inspect and repair brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, steering, and other vehicle systems.
- Maintain records of work, time, materials, and equipment maintenance; update service workbook and daily task sheets per contract requirements.
- Assist the master mechanic on major repair jobs – disassemble, clean parts, remove subcomponents, reassemble and install subcomponents.
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment, properly store and inventory parts and supplies.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience with light, medium, and heavy trucks.
- Preferred ASE certification.
- Must hold a CDLB with Passenger Endorsement license or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to provide a general mechanic’s toolbox.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring, and hydraulic schematics.
- Knowledgeable of hazardous material and waste regulations and right‑to‑know information sheets.
- Demonstrated good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.
Requirements
- Valid domestic CDLB with Passenger Endorsement.
- Must obtain and maintain approval to operate a vehicle by Tessera’s insurance carrier; applicants without CDL encouraged to obtain within 6 months of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
- Background check and E‑Verify will be conducted.
- Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment medical examination and drug screening.
- Must meet federal guidelines to be considered for this position.
- Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL‑ID compliant driver’s license or acceptable alternative.
