Job summary

Tessera is seeking a Lead Mechanic at Warner Robins Air Force Base, GA to serve as senior technical SME for maintenance operations spanning military and commercial vehicles and related systems.

Responsibilities include directing daily work, ensuring inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance meet contract standards and readiness goals.

Leadman Mechanic

Location: Warner Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

Type: Non Exempt.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Compensation: $36.68 - $36.68 p/hour.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the Lead Mechanic and technical subject matter expert for maintenance operations supporting military vehicles, commercial vehicles, trailers, material handling equipment, power generation equipment, heavy equipment, and associated support systems.
  • Conducts and oversees operational inspections, preventive maintenance services, performance testing, and readiness evaluations to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and mission readiness.
  • Coordinates daily maintenance activities and provides work direction to mechanics and technicians to ensure inspections, repairs, diagnostics, and scheduled maintenance services are completed in accordance with contract requirements and established maintenance standards.
  • Provides technical leadership and hands-on assistance in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and testing of complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel, braking, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and fire suppression systems.
  • Performs and oversees preventive maintenance inspections, annual vehicle inspections, operational readiness inspections, and corrective maintenance actions to maximize fleet availability and mission readiness
  • Reviews completed repairs and maintenance actions to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with applicable technical standards before equipment is released for service.
  • Assists management in planning workloads, prioritizing maintenance requirements, scheduling repairs, and allocating personnel resources to meet operational requirements and customer expectations.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts involving diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, electronic controls, and other complex vehicle and equipment systems.
  • Ensures all work is performed in accordance with applicable technical manuals, maintenance standards, OEM specifications, Air Force instructions, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and NFPA standards.
  • Provides mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job training to mechanics and technicians to improve technical proficiency, productivity, safety awareness, and overall performance.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of training programs related to vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, safety procedures, tool usage, inspection requirements, and maintenance best practices.
  • Monitors employee performance, workmanship, attendance, and adherence to safety requirements and reports concerns or recommendations to management
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, training records, timekeeping information, work orders, parts usage reports, and other required reports utilizing government and company maintenance management systems.
  • Coordinates with supervisors, customers, government representatives, vendors, and parts suppliers to resolve maintenance issues, obtain technical information, and expedite repairs
  • Ensures accountability and proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, government-furnished property, shop equipment, and maintenance supplies
  • Prepares vehicles, maintenance records, and supporting documentation for customer inspections, compliance reviews, audits, and operational readiness assessments
  • Promotes a safe work environment by enforcing proper use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout procedures, hazardous material controls, housekeeping standards, and established safety practices.
  • Leads emergency or priority maintenance activities to support mission-critical equipment and operational requirements
  • Performs road tests, operational checks, and final acceptance inspections to verify repair effectiveness and vehicle reliability
  • Serves as the senior technical representative in the absence of management by coordinating workflow, providing technical guidance, and ensuring continuity of maintenance operations
  • Maintains a professional appearance, demonstrates exceptional customer service, and fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Monitors parts availability, identifies material requirements, and coordinates with supply personnel and vendors to ensure timely procurement of repair parts and maintenance materials necessary to support mission requirements
  • All Other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience is preferred; specialized vocational, technical or other formal training may be substituted in part for experience.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow technical manuals to ensure proper diagnosis and repair.
  • CDL required Class B.
Physical Requirements
  • Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking.
  • Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
Requirements
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (T Series) preferred.
  • Additional manufacturer, military vehicle, hydraulic, diesel, or equipment maintenance certifications are desirable.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for certifications when approved by management.
  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
