ASE Master Mechanic – Location: Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Washington D.C.
Type: Full Time, Non‑Exempt
Work Schedule: Full‑time, Day Shift
Compensation: $36.67 per hour plus $10,000.00 ASE completion bonus

Responsibilities
- Diagnose problems and determine extent of repairs required.
- Coordinate procurement of materials/parts and replace worn or broken parts including engine components, bearings, piston rings, valves, and other engine parts.
- Rebuild carburetors, overhaul transmissions, repair fuel injection, lighting, ignition, brake, steering/suspension, exhaust, hydraulic, and A/C systems.
- Perform service, inspections, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of equipment including wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineering equipment, power generation, material handling equipment, and various engine‑powered vehicles.
- Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring, and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair for non‑annual and annual services.
- Disassemble, clean, repair, and install assemblies and components for major repair jobs.
- Mentor employees and new hires on shop safety, maintenance practices, and documentation of required work orders.
- Coordinate with Lead Mechanic and/or Project Manager on procurement of parts, materials, and supplies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure building/shop cleanliness on a routine basis.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of experience preferred; specialized vocational or technical training may substitute part of experience.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow technical manuals for proper diagnosis and repair.
- ASE A1‑A8 certifications required; candidates with these certifications receive a $10,000 bonus, and those who complete certification during employment receive the bonus upon completion.
- Valid state CDL‑B driver’s license with ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance carrier.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

Additional Requirements
- Must own toolbox or tool cart.
- Must obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
