Job summary

Valmont Industries is seeking an Auto Robot Welding Lead for our Valley facility. The role partners with the Production Supervisor to run robotic welding, train staff, and fill in where needed in the Welding Shop.

The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership, safety focus, and a drive for continuous improvement. The position reports to the Production Supervisor and requires strong communication, blueprint reading, and problem-solving skills to ensure quality and on-time production.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; 11+ years relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to pass forklift and crane operator tests.
  • Welder C status or higher; proficient with shop mathematics and blueprint reading.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook) and QA/documentation.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and leadership roles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and program robotic welding equipment.
  • Supervise production line; lead and coach team on safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Assist in set-ups, changeovers and line maintenance.
  • Monitor line performance and maintain clean, organized workspace.
  • Participate in RCA and continuous improvement initiatives.

Apply now.**Available Shift: Monday-Thursday from 5:30 am to 4:00 pm****Compensation: $30+ per hour****A Brief Summary of This Position**The primary role of the Auto Robot Welding Lead is to work closely with the Production Supervisor, Shop Lead, peers, and other departments to contribute to Valmont’s overall success. The Lead must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for running robotic welding, training, and filling wherever needed in the Welding Shop. Effective communication, leadership, teamwork, and motivation with all associates in the work cell while adhering to Valmont’s standards, policies, and procedures are critical for this role.**Essential Functions*** Perform robotic welding.* Run and edit robotic programs.* Inspects and measures machined workpieces to verify conformance to specification. Moves machine controls and guides to adjust machine to insure proper blueprint specifications.* Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.* Assist in running all lines from set-ups, changeovers, and lead work.* Assists on any set-ups required for a specific job.* Participate and assist engineering department with training and special projects.* Work closely with your Shop Lead, peers, and other departments to contribute to Valmont’s overall success.* Monitor and coach associates on shift to ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed and adhered to.* When acting as line lead, assure tasks assigned to the team are performed productively to maximize the utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment.* When acting as a lead, keep the line clean and properly restocked for the next shift.* Produce an hourly production record of the cell’s performance when performing as a line lead, including but not limited to downtime, productivity, and maintenance issues.* Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to understand losses, and act to prevent future breakdowns and incidents.* Promote a continuous improvement climate that encourages suggestions from the team.* Train, coach, and develop the team to ensure proper operation of assigned work and equipment. Help assess and manage the team’s bench strength.* Ensure inspection checks and quality assurance occurs to produce high-quality products.* Administer and support company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.* Support the team and fill in however and wherever necessary to help drive the success of the Line.* Coach and develop associates to maximize performance in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.* Other duties as assigned.**Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)*** High School diploma or GED along with 11+ years relevant experience is preferred.* The ability to pass a forklift driver’s test.* The ability to pass a crane operator test.* Currently Welder C status or higher.* A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.* Strong leadership skills and the ability to support divisional business objectives.* Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.* Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks and reach goals through the work of the team.* The ability to learn/understand all jobs in the welding shop.* The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.* Knowledge of and ability to use common shop mathematics, in feet, inches, degrees, and fractions, in reading complex prints, and standard specifications.* The ability to solve problems and make an informed decision based on the situation.* Communicate and interact with coworkers, at all levels, in a positive manner.* Effectively interpret and present information both one-on-one and in front of a group.**Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications*** A strong working knowledge of QAD.* Currently Welder C status.* Demonstrated experience in a leadership role is preferred.* Practical hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing.**Educational Background**Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions. Needs to be proficient in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, performs decimal conversions, and the use of a tape measure. Must be proficient in the reading of specifications, bills of material, and simple blueprints. Must be able to perform the computer functions/transactions required by the department. Must possess the necessary knowledge to operate and diagnose certain types of production tooling, plasma and oxy/acetylene burning equipment, material handling devices (cranes, pallet movers, forklifts, etc.).**Job Training Skill Development**Must be able to satisfactorily perform all functions of this position within 90 days of starting this position.**Decision Making**This job requires the employee to make decisions that affect the quality of the products being manufactured. For example, the employee must recognize when weld quality falls below acceptable levels and take corrective action to ensure repairs are made. Must also have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and to respond to challenging circumstances.**Physical Effort**While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms to push and pull product. The employee regularly is required to walk, talk, climb stairs, sit, and hear. The employee is occasionally required climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or bend.
