Job summary

PPG Industries, Inc in the United States seeks a Customer Development Chemist to support developing and maintaining products for Auto OEM customers, leveraging chemistry expertise with manufacturing insights.

You will lead projects, work with cross-functional teams, apply design of experiments, and drive cost improvements while traveling up to 15% to support field needs.

This role offers a base salary of $78,000 to $87,500 with a bonus potential up to 4.5%, plus comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Science degree in Chemistry or related field with 2+ years of coating experience.
• Project management experience.
• Experience using statistical tools for data analysis.
• Experience in development of Primer/Basecoat (WB/SB), and Clear coat.
• Willingness to join meetings with Japan during nights/early mornings.
• Willingness to support night and weekend trials as needed.
• Proficient with office packages; basic knowledge of Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps.
• Ability to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Work with cross functional teams and support new color and product development, and technology cost and improvement projects.
• Follow experimental procedures, produce reliable data, and contribute to the design of experiments.
• Lead independent projects or portions of larger projects.
• Utilize project management skills, process technology, knowledge of manufacturing, process technology, business, with direction from a team leader.
• Demonstrate commitment to goals through words and actions.
• Foster a culture of innovation.
• Apply root cause analysis and BPI tools to resolve technical, manufacturing, and field issues.
• Support formula optimization and raw material initiative projects.
• Knowledge of chemistry/coating technology supports manufacturing, business, cost optimization, and customers.
• Seek new projects and do not avoid complex assignments.
• Describe action plans to appropriate parties.
