Job summary

PPG is seeking a Customer Development Chemist to support developing and maintaining products for Auto OEM customers. The base salary ranges from $78,000 to $87,500 with a bonus potential up to 4.5% of base salary. The role requires chemist with coating experience and willingness to work across teams and time zones.

You will lead projects, analyze data, and collaborate with global teams to optimize formulas and cost. A strong background in primers, basecoats, and clear coats is preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS in chemistry or related field with 2+ years coating experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience using statistical tools for data analysis.
  • Experience in development of Primer/Basecoat (WB/SB), and Clear coat.
  • Flexibility to join meetings with Japan during the nights/early mornings.
  • Flexibility to support night/weekend trials and manufacturing issues as needed.
  • Proficient with Office; knowledge of Power BI/Power Automate/Power Apps preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.

  • Follow experimental procedures, produce reliable data, and contribute to design of experiments.
  • Lead independent projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Utilize project management skills, process technology, knowledge of manufacturing, process technology, business, and internal/external resources with some direction from a team leader or senior chemist.
  • Demonstrate commitment to goals through words and actions.
  • Foster a culture of innovation.
  • Apply root cause analysis and BPI tools to resolve technical, manufacturing, and field issues.
  • Support formula optimization and raw material initiative projects.
  • Knowledge of chemistry/coating technology supports manufacturing, business, cost optimization, and customers.
  • Seek new projects and take on complex assignments.
  • Describe action plans to appropriate parties.

Job description

As a Customer Development Chemist, you will be responsible for supporting developing and maintaining products for Auto OEM customers.

The base salary range for this position is $78,000 to $87,500, with the possibility of an annual bonus up to 4.5% of base salary.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Chemistry or related Engineering or Science field with 2 or more years of coating experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience using statistical tools for data analysis
  • Experience in development of Primer and Basecoat (WB/SB), and Clear coat
  • Flexibility to join meeting with Japan during the nights/earlier mornings
  • Flexibility to support unexpected trials, manufacturing issues, line concerns during the night and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent knowledge of office packages and preferred basic knowledge on power BI, power automate and power apps.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
