Job summary

Niles Community Schools is seeking a dynamic CTE Auto Instructional Assistant to support the automotive instruction program for the 2026-2027 school year. This part-time role requires effective communication and professionalism when interacting with students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities include assisting in instruction, classroom management, and preparation of materials while aligning activities with district and state standards.

Qualifications

  • Two years of college completed (60 hours) or an Associate's Degree or higher.
  • Pass a state-approved academic assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics as applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct or assist in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support in automotive topics to individuals and groups.
  • Assist teachers with classroom management and non-instructional tasks.
  • Organize classroom and department materials and maintain records.
  • Operate standard shop equipment and tools safely.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards with students and staff.
  • Support teachers in meeting district and state standards for student learning.
  • Participate in staff meetings and parent communications as needed.

CTE Auto Instructional Assistant

Part-time position for the 2026-2027 school year

Reports to: Building Principal (or designee)

Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Career and Technical Education (CTE) Auto Instructional Assistant. Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completed two years of college (60 hours) OR
  • Obtained an Associate's Degree or higher OR
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas:
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
Current State Board of Education Approved Assessments:
  • College Board’s SAT – Score at least a 480 on evidence-based reading and writing and a 530 on math
  • ETS Parapro Assessment - A passing score of 460 is required
Essential Duties (non-prioritized):
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on automotive repair and maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preventive maintenance, brake systems, steering and suspension, electrical systems and diagnostics, tire mounting, balancing and repair.
  • Experience safely operating automotive shop equipment and hand tools.
  • Provide individual, small group, and large group student instruction within the context of the classroom and as directed by the immediate supervisor
  • Assist teachers in classroom management, maintaining discipline and other non-instructional functions, as needed
  • Organizational skills.
  • Assist with the organization and preparation of classroomand department materials
  • Maintain assessment and other student records as outlined
  • Participate as requested in staff meetings, IEP's, committees, parent meetings,field trips,and special projects
  • Maintain acceptable professional and personal standards
  • Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
  • Comply with all school district policies and procedures
  • Ability to align student goals and objectives with district and state standards
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student affairs
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Other duties as assigned
