Job summary

CARSTAR in Garner, NC is seeking a skilled Metal Technician to repair damaged vehicles to pre-accident condition in line with industry standards and factory specs. You will use technical information sheets and RO guidance to determine whether to repair or replace components, and you will work closely with the Production Manager and estimators.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years auto body collision repair experience.
• High School diploma/GED required, collision tech graduate preferred.
• I-CAR certification or ASE training required.
• I-CAR welding and ASE Structural (B4) certification strongly preferred.
• Experience using frame and measuring equipment.
• History of working independently and in a team environment.
• Highly organized, able to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Must provide own tools (in working order).

Responsibilities

• Repair damaged vehicles using technical information sheets following RO.
• Make “repair or replace” decisions concerning safety, costs and cycle time.
• Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic components to gain access to areas.
• Perform structural or replacement repairs, airbag replacement and some mechanical work.
• Perform sheet metal welding and metal finishing.
• File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces.
• Coordinate with Production Manager and Estimators on status.
• Meet CARSTAR’s requirements for efficiency, cycle time and return rate.
• Follow safety procedures and hazardous waste disposal.
• Attend daily release meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
