Job summary

Wayne County Schools is seeking an Autism Mentor to support classroom teachers and implement autism-focused activities. Aide eligibility and certification requirements apply, with ongoing professional development and collaboration with families.

The position emphasizes safety, documentation, and consistent instruction aligned with Special Education goals. CPR/First Aid training may be required, and the role may involve lifting and bus-related duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or TASC required.
• Must be or have been classified as an Aide, or must pass the state prescribed exam for Aide.
• Must complete Autism Mentor certification within 3 years.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Ability to relate to children.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties as outlined by the classroom teacher.
• Keeps files of the children’s work, test scores, health services, etc.
• Prepares routine notices concerning activities and PAC meetings.
• Conducts activities for students with directions firmly established by the teacher.
• Monitors testing and classroom tasks assigned to students.
• Corrects activities assigned to students.
• Operates audiovisual equipment in the course of instructional duties.
• Secures materials for instructional programs through proper channels.
• Prepares material for instruction as outlined by the classroom teacher.
• Available for consultations with parents.
• Keeps records as needed to accomplish evaluation for programs.
• Keeps a skill mastery list on each student in cooperation with the classroom teacher.
• Maintains positive work habits.
• Performs duties efficiently and productively.
• Maintains and/or upgrades job-related skills.
• Could be required to ride bus.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal.
• Develops and maintains a safe work environment at all times.
• Must acknowledge and sign the Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
