Job summary

Wakefield Public Schools is seeking a part-time paraprofessional to assist teachers in delivering IEP-based supports for students with Autism in the high school setting.

The role involves direct in-class support, applying accommodations, and aiding social skills development while collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other staff to meet student needs. Strong communication and ongoing progress documentation are essential.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher preferred.
• Experience with high school students who have Autism highly preferred.
• Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher with implementing IEPs tailored to students with ASD.
• Provide direct support to students during classroom activities with accommodations.
• Facilitate social skills development and support peer engagement.
• Support students with communication challenges using AAC tools and strategies.
• Monitor and document student progress and behavior as directed.
• Assist with behavior intervention plans and de-escalation techniques.
• Collaborate with the special education team, therapists, and paraprofessionals.
• Assist students with personal care tasks such as feeding, toileting, and hygiene as needed.
• Prepare and organize classroom materials to support instructional activities.
• Maintain a safe and positive learning environment following school policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
