Job summary

Anderson Center for Autism is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support autistic and neurodivergent students in a structured, sensory-friendly classroom in New York. You will assist with IEP goals, provide supervision, and help create an inclusive environment that promotes academic and personal growth.

Responsibilities include implementing curriculum, supporting therapy carryover, and collaborating with staff to ensure student success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• New York State Certified Teaching Assistant designation; considered if certification is started within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Attend to the educational, physical, social, and emotional needs of students while assisting the classroom teacher in implementing IEP goals.
• Follow a classroom schedule and ensure IEP goals are implemented with therapy carryover.
• Assist in envisioning, organizing, and arranging the classroom for a safe, engaging learning atmosphere.
• Provide classroom support according to staffing patterns and student needs.
• Escort and assist students to and from school buses to foster independence.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and job skills training.
• Adhere to all agency policies, ensuring student safety and well-being.
• Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other professionals to optimize student learning.
• Complete required data and documentation related to student learning and health.
• Model communication, social, and interpersonal skills and provide positive feedback to students.
• Help create a culture of unconditional positive regard for each student.
