Job summary

Anderson Center for Autism in New York seeks a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support autistic and neurodivergent students, implementing IEP goals and creating a safe, inclusive classroom. Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and NYS Teaching Assistant designation.
• Must maintain qualifications in crisis intervention procedures.
• Must be capable of initiating or assisting in all components of crisis intervention and evacuation procedures.
• Completion of agency orientation and training.
• Must fulfill mandated reporting requirements and adhere to policies.

Responsibilities

• Attend to educational, physical, social, and emotional needs of students while assisting the classroom teacher with IEP goals.
• Follow classroom schedule and ensure therapy carryover within structured educational environment.
• Assist in organizing and maintaining a comfortable, safe, and engaging learning atmosphere.
• Provide classroom support according to staffing and student needs, including individual and group activities.
• Escort and assist students to and from buses, promoting independence when appropriate.
• Attend staff meetings and participate in job skills training.
