Job summary

Qualifications

• An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, CE, or CEAS as deemed necessary by NJDOE certification standards.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless required by the NJDOE.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Evaluates student progress and prepares progress reports.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study as required by state law and district procedures.
• Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction to adapt the curriculum for pupils with varying abilities.
• Instructs pupils in use of textbooks, equipment and materials.
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly environment.
• Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service and growth activities.
• Supervises classroom activities and coordinates work of aides and paraprofessionals.
• Identifies pupils’ needs and cooperates with staff to help solve health, attitude and learning problems.
• Communicates with parents and staff on pupil progress and development.
• Maintains attendance accounting and business records as required.
• Develops and participates in student activities and faculty committees.
• Acts as a resource person to relate subject areas and maintain open communication with students and parents.
