Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in Queens, NY is seeking a Physical Therapist to support students in a year-round school setting. You will develop IEPs, provide specialized physical therapy, and work with a multi-disciplinary team to foster strength, balance, and activity.

Responsibilities include implementing plans, collaborating with families, and ensuring safe, supportive care. Travel to other Gersh locations may be required. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional meetings until 4 PM.

Qualifications

• MA/Doctorate in Physical Therapy with NY state licensure.
• Minimum 2 years experience with individuals on the autism spectrum.
• Strong knowledge of sensory processing and regulation.
• Experience with CPI crisis intervention techniques.

Responsibilities

• Develop IEPs and collaborate with the education team to implement them.
• Apply specialized methods to help students overcome physical limitations.
• Create and maintain a safe, positive therapeutic environment.
• Coordinate with families to ensure continuity of care.
• Work with Gersh staff to provide integrated services.
• Regularly assess and adjust treatment plans based on progress.
• Stay current with research in pediatric physical therapy for autism.
