Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs seeks an Itinerant Classroom Special Education Instructional Aide/Autism Mentor to support autism awareness and learning at Roanoke Elementary School. Under licensed teacher supervision, you will help prepare activities, supervise students, and assist with daily routines and transport needs where applicable.

The role requires a high school diploma, CPR/First Aid, and Autism Mentor certification (or willingness to obtain).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent as per WV Code.
• Autism Mentor certification or willingness to obtain.
• Valid First Aid card and CPR certification.
• Must pass State Aide Competency Test if not employed.
• Must be 18+ years old and background check completed.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed teacher in preparing classroom activities.
• Help students care for personal belongings.
• Support non-instructional duties on playground, cafeteria, and buses.
• Assist with recess and extra trips as needed.
• Handle interruptions and assist when teacher is occupied.
• Reinforce positive behavior to develop self-discipline.
• Support instructional times with drills, reading, and group work.
• Work with small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher.
• Evaluate day's work with teacher and plan for next day.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and uphold rules.
