Job summary

Brightwell Academy in Hamden, CT seeks a student-centered Teacher Assistant/Driver to work with grades 7 through post-high school students who have autism. This full-time position provides support across classrooms, social activities, and transitions to help learners access meaningful experiences.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• Experience with adolescents and young adults with autism preferred.
• Experience supporting students in educational, vocational, or community settings preferred.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with teachers and multidisciplinary educational teams.
• Connecticut 'V' endorsement and applicable driving requirements for student transportation.

Responsibilities

• Works directly with students throughout the school day across academics, social, transitions, and activities.
• Supports daily instruction, classroom activities, and small group learning.
• Provides instructional support and prompts to encourage independence and student engagement.
• Assists in developing communication, social skills, and executive functioning.
• Supports students in accessing content with assistive and instructional technology as appropriate.
• Participates in field trips, community experiences, and other experiential learning opportunities.
• Maintains confidentiality and ACES policies, and assists with data collection as needed.
