Job summary

Gersh Autism in Long Island City, NY, is seeking a Physical Therapist to support students in K-12 education with targeted therapy to build strength, balance, and activity levels. The role emphasizes collaboration with educators and families to implement IEPs.

The successful candidate will have an MA/Doctorate in Physical Therapy, NY state license, and experience with individuals on the autism spectrum. The position is on-site in a school setting with travel to other Gersh locations and CPI

Qualifications

• MA/Doctorate in Physical Therapy required.
• Active New York State license to practice Physical Therapy.
• At least 2 years of experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Sensory Processing and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Comfort with technology and computer-based documentation systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop IEPs for each student and implement with the educational team.
• Utilize specialized techniques to help students overcome physical limitations.
• Create and maintain a safe, positive therapeutic environment.
• Collaborate with parents and families to ensure continuity of care.
• Work with Gersh Autism staff to provide integrated services.
• Continuously evaluate and adjust treatment plans based on progress.
• Stay up to date on research in pediatric physical therapy related to autism.
