Job summary

Autism Society of North Carolina’s Camp Royall, a premier program near Pittsboro, NC, seeks an experienced leader to serve as Camp Royall Director. The role oversees year-round programs for individuals with autism, manages staff, safety, and camper experience, and guides financial and operational performance.

The Director reports to the Recreation and Camp Services Director and will drive program quality, family engagement, and professional development while shaping the long-term vision for Camp

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• At least two years of supervisory or management experience in a residential camp, recreation, human services, or similar program setting.
• At least four years of supervised experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.
• Experience leading a residential camp, summer camp, recreation program, or similarly complex operation is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee summer and year-round programming, ensuring experiences are organized, engaging, safe, and responsive to the needs of individuals with autism across the lifespan.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop year-round and seasonal staff while building a culture of clear expectations, accountability, collaboration, and strong camper support.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, person-centered environment and build trusted relationships with campers, families, and caregivers while providing leadership through behavioral, medical, safety, and other complex situations.
• Manage an annual operating budget of approximately $1.5 million, including revenue and expenses, staffing decisions, purchasing, registration, documentation, and other administrative systems.
• Help oversee the operational needs of Camp Royall’s 133-acre property, partnering with property staff and organizational leadership on maintenance, facility improvements, emergency preparedness, and risk management.
• Support camper enrollment and recruitment of seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers while collaborating with ASNC teams, donors, and community partners to strengthen Camp Royall’s reach and long-term success.
