Job summary

Camp Royall is hiring Overnight Winter Camp Counselors for December 27, 2026–January 9, 2027, onsite in Moncure, NC. This seasonal role offers hands-on experience supporting autistic children and adults within a collaborative team.

Compensation is $500 per week plus housing with training starting December 27–28, 2026, followed by consecutive camp weeks including holiday break coverage and opportunities for future Spring/Summer programs.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.

• Create a safe, fun, and supportive camp experience while building positive relationships and encouraging camper choice, participation, and independence.
• Lead and participate in recreational activities such as arts and crafts, music, gym games, LEGO building, board games, karaoke, and more.
• Provide individualized support based on each camper’s needs, including personal care tasks as needed.
• Receive specialized training and work alongside a collaborative team.

This seasonal, two-week position is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the full camp experience, gain valuable hands‑on experience supporting autistic children and adults, and make a meaningful difference- all while becoming part of the Camp Royall community.

And it doesn’t have to end after Winter Camp! Opportunities are available to continue working with Camp Royall throughout the spring, during weekend and week-long programs, and into our Summer 2027 camp season.

Location: Onsite at our Camp Royall campus in Moncure, NC (near Pittsboro, NC)

Compensation: $500/week + housing

Schedule:

Training: December 27–28, 2026

Winter Camp Week 1: December 28, 2026–January 2, 2027.

You will have from noon on Saturday, January 2 through noon on Monday, January 4 off.

Winter Camp Week 2: January 4–9, 2027

What You’ll Do

• Create a safe, fun, and supportive camp experience while building positive relationships and encouraging camper choice, participation, and independence.
• Lead and participate in recreational activities such as arts and crafts, music, gym games, LEGO building, board games, karaoke, and more!
• Provide individualized support based on each camper’s needs. For some campers, this may include assistance with personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, or toileting.
• Receive specialized training and work alongside a collaborative team while gaining hands‑on experience supporting autistic children and adults.

What We’re Looking For

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Personal, educational, or professional experience with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
• Availability to work an overnight camp schedule from December 27, 2026-January 9, 2027, at our Moncure, NC location.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and actively participate in training.
• Ability to work in a busy, active, and highly collaborative camp environment.
• Most importantly, an interest in supporting autistic individuals and helping create an inclusive and memorable camp experience.
