Job summary

The RealReal, Inc. is seeking an Authenticator in New Jersey/Arizona to inspect, authenticate, and photograph consignments for listing on our website. You will use trusted TRR methods to verify luxury items and enter supporting data into our inventory system.

Ideal candidates have fashion retail experience, strong brand knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail. This role offers hourly pay with incentives, and on-site benefits at our climate-controlled facilities.

Responsibilities

• Review and authenticate luxury clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories.
• Authenticate products by brand identifiers and assess materials.
• Use XRF to assess metal authenticity for handbags.
• Capture macro imagery of handbags with a digital microscope.
• Notate and report product details into the TRR system.
• Write product descriptions using industry terms.
• Data entry of measurements and fabrication.

The Art & Science of Real comes to life within our facilities located in New Jersey and Arizona - combining the knowledge of hundreds of luxury experts with cutting-edge, proprietary technology. As consigned goods travel into our facilities, the team processes, authenticates, and photographs each item in preparation for listing to our website.

About The Role

As consigned goods travel into our facilities, the team processes, authenticates, and photographs each item in preparation for listing to our website.

As an Authenticator at The RealReal, you will be responsible for inspecting and processing incoming consigned products and entering supporting data into our inventory system. Our ideal candidates are team-players with a passion for sustainable luxury, and keen attention to detail. In addition to hourly base pay, we also offer:

• Tenure-based pay program: Get rewarded for your commitment with 2 automatic pay increases during your first 12 months, up to $0.75 MORE PER HOUR.
• Pay for Performance program: Opportunity to earn a monthly bonus equivalent up to $2.30 more per hour when exceeding your performance goals.
• $50 in monthly food credits to apply to snacks and meals that are available for purchase on site.

What You Get To Do Every Day

• Review and authenticate luxury clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories using TRR methodology and adhering to acceptance and condition standards
• Authenticate luxury products by locating brand identifiers (holograms, date codes, authenticity cards, and hallmarks) and evaluating the quality of materials and construction
• Use a X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) to assess authenticity of metal for handbags
• Capture detailed macro-imagery of a handbag’s exterior and interior using a digital microscope
• Evaluate quality of materials and construction
• Reference internal authentication resources to accurately review products
• Remain well-versed on current brand trends & developments
• Notate and report details of product into back-end TRR system
• Write informative product descriptions using industry-standard fashion terms
• Data Entry (Provide pertinent product information such as measurements and fabrication)

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements

• Experience working in the retail or fashion industry
• Strong fashion knowledge – including top designers and brands, current trends, fabrics, garment construction, etc.
• Proven ability to excel in a high-volume, repetitive environment
• Self-motivation and a drive to achieve results
• Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills
• Adaptability and openness to change
• Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds (moving and sorting product, etc.)
• Ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours at a time
• Ability to read and write in English
• Proficiency with Mac OS and Google Suite

Preferred Requirements

• College degree in fashion studies/merchandising, textiles studies, etc.
• Experience working in authentication roles

Compensation, Benefits, + Perks

• Hourly base pay + incentive pay based on performance/quota targets achieved. Applicable to employees who work a minimum of 40 hours per month.

The expected hourly rate for this role is $19.00-$19.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR’s total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.
